HOW MY BOYFRIEND BECAME MY PARTNER
Boyfriend or partner?
Boyfriend and partner? What is the difference? For me, a boyfriend is a person who you date, but I don’t have any clear path or plans, and a partner is somebody you want to start a family with and you’re not married yet.
It feels a bit funny to call Bryan my boyfriend when we have two children together, but we’re not married either, so I can’t introduce him as my husband, hence partner. We are partners; we are a family. Keep reading to find out the whole story.
How it started!
How my boyfriend became my partner is one of those stories where I can go back and pinch him because of it. Read on, and you will understand.
It started in a restaurant; We were working together. If you can believe it, I didn’t notice Bryan for the first few months. Then, our schedules started to intersect, and we got to know each other. One day I received a text from him asking if I wanted to go out, and naturally, I said no.
Don’t get me wrong; it had nothing to do with him. I was tired all the time, and I just wanted to stay home and chill. But, going on a date meant I had to get ready, and we all know it’s not a 5 minutes process.
I had to leave the house, actively participate in that date for hours, and then go home. That is not how I imagined my days off.
Approximately 1 year later, the whole team went to a club to burn out some steam, and there were sparks.
The next day he texted again if I wanted to go out with him, we were both off, and I decided to say yes.
It was a beautiful sunny day; we lived in London at the time, those days were relatively rare.
Suddenly I realized I had to put on some makeup, dust off a going-out outfit, put on clean socks, and off I went.
The dates that changed our lives forever
We went to London’s Eye, had frozen yogurt, sat down, and all I could think was.. ‘my God, this guy doesn’t speak,’ I felt like I had to keep talking so we don’t end up in one of those awkward silent moments, and at the same time, he was so cute and sweet.
If I remember correctly, I managed to annoy him on day one; I told him that he is shy.. he did not appreciate that. HE IS SO SHY!!!
Imagine this, you are next to a girl you supposedly like, you are a few short centimeters away from her face, and you don’t kiss her!!! But sure, he is not shy!
I wore the trousers, and I kissed him. And then we were interrupted by a lady with a bible in her hand who was asking us if we believe in God and if we want to say a prayer together, and we just wanted her to go away, like.. lady can’t you take a hint, I’m sitting in this man’s arms, YOU WERE NOT INVITED.
That first date was so strange that we decided to go again the next day. Quite similar to the first date, but for some reason, I enjoyed every second of those two dates.
Working different shifts meant that we were seeing each other on our days off, so we decided to move in together after a few short months of dating.
That year we had booked three separate holidays, one to Italy and the other 2 to Spain. We had a fantastic time together, got to know each other even more; we were just in such good sync.
You know when you spend time with somebody, and you don’t think of a future? We were like that. We loved each other’s company, loved having fun together, but not once did either one of us think of a long-term future.
The last day of our last holiday, which happened to be in Spain, was when we decided to become a family. So let me rewind the previous two days. Day 5 of the holiday, monthly bloody monsters should have come, but they didn’t!!!
We rushed to a pharmacy and got a pregnancy test, even though I was 100% I was pregnant. I took the test the following day to get the most accurate result, and…two lines appeared.
We discussed our options and what we wanted to do, and by the time we had to go back home, we decided to try and be the best parents we could be. And that, ladies and gents, is how my boyfriend became my partner.
Fast forward to now, we live together, we have a 2-year-old beagle, a 15-month-old daughter, and I am 23 weeks pregnant with our second daughter… and this is how my boyfriend became my partner.
